Keynote Presentation: Dr. Lawrence Kushi
 Join
Dr. Lawrence Kushi, a nutritional epidemiologist, who
has been involved in many studies on the role of diet in cancer. He
is the Principal Investigator of a large study funded by the National
Cancer Institute that examines the role of diet, use of alternative
therapies, and other factors in breast cancer recurrence and survival.
Dr. Kushi is also the son of Michio and Aveline Kushi, two of the leading
proponents of macrobiotics. His presentation will focus on the seemingly
contradictory, but actually complementary nature of what we know about food,
nutrition and cancer from these perspectives.
Keynote Presentation: Dr. Gordon Saxe
Physician and clinical researcher Dr. Gordon Saxe explores the
roles of diet and lifestyle in the prevention and treatment of cancer from the
lenses of both Eastern and Western medicine in his keynote
presentation. Citing both his own and others' research and exploring the more
holistic perspective of Oriental medicine, he will bridge Eastern and Western
thought and practice by presenting a new, integrated philosophy of cancer. Join
Dr. Saxe for a comprehensive exploration of the current information
and research in the prevention and treatment of cancer.

a fun, enlightening, therapeutic and hands-on experiential workshop which focuses on
women's health and enhancement throughout their life cycles. Later in the morning,

from nutritional and lifestyle perspectives. Dr. Figtree will also discuss her

optimum health and healing. She will follow her cooking class with a presentation
on women's health and healing in which she will also discuss her recovery from cancer.

Eating Disorders with Jack Nelson Soll
One of California's leading authorities on eating disorders Jack Nelson
Soll reviews the definitions and explanations of the many types of eating disorders.
The premise of his presentation is that eating disorders are the natural and logical
outgrowth of "family-of-origin" developmental issues. These various eating disorders
symptoms serve essential life-sustaining functions for the individual. The healing of these
issues and the replacement of each of these functions with healthier and more effective
coping mechanisms can eliminate the need for the eating disorder and enable the person
to lead a life free of physical, emotional and spiritual ramifications of their disease.
Jack will also discuss his success in maintaining his 135 pound weight loss for over 25
years.
In Context... Extended Study with David Briscoe
The Fall Health Classic presents a program of extended, in-depth study with
a leading teacher and thinker in the natural health field each year. This
year, David Briscoe will explore, "Easy Health-Supportive Practices for Everyone"
in this two-part workshop. In Part I, David discusses the "Fountain of Youth
for Your Skin." Your skin gives immediate signals about your physical and
emotional health. David will explore how to read your skin and make use of
what it is telling you. Learn how to maintain vibrant, youthful skin
through special dietary adjustments, facelift massage, Qi Gong for the skin,
home remedies, emotional healing and much more. No Botox. In Part II, David
discusses "The Latest on Keeping Your Bones Healthy." Much misinformation,
confusion and unnecesary fear surrounds bone health. David explores the latest
research and cross-cultural studies and how to keep bones healthy, including
dietary adjustment, special cooking methods, kidney health and exercise.
Yoga and Health: Harmonizing the Elements with Aliki
St. Denis, LAc
Continuing the study of yoga for promoting health and well-being at this year's
Health Classic, Santa Barbara acupuncturist and yoga teacher Aliki St. Denis will
focus on the five elements. In her two-part presentation, Aliki will lead participants
through a Harmonizing Sequence of yoga poses and a guided awareness meditation. The
meditation in Part I will balance the chakras (energy centers) and their corresponding
elements. The meditation in Part II will correlate the chakras and elements with the yamas
(yogic principles). No previous yoga experience is necessary to attend this workshop
as the Harmonizing Sequence is suitable for all levels and abilities and the guided
awareness can be done sitting in a chair.
